Hair Conversations At Kipilipili Hair Expo

Nikiwe Dlova

There is a certain joy that comes with knowing that as a naturalista, you can easily access natural hair products from your local manufacturers at an affordable price. Kipilipili Hair Expo brought together natural hair and skin product entrepreneurs and naturalistas in one place in Dar Es Salaam making it easier for the sharing of hair and skin care tips as well as try out some creative hairstyles from Rehema Samo, Dahlia Hair Lounge and Nix Dlova, a creative hair artist from South Africa.  Nix Dlova had a pop-up salon during the expo doing quick and easy, yet beautiful hairstyles for the expo attendees and in true Nix Dlova style most hairstyles had a pop of beautiful colours. Rehema Samo and Dahlia Hair Lounge put together and amazing hair show showcasing the best of hairstyles that they created.

Hair Show

The hair and skin care brands that exhibited were Natural Hair Desire, Florinyah Brand, Kaara Naturals, Marashi ya Unguja, Nuya’s Essence, Mesisi Fashion, Mororo Products, Marcelina Fragrance from Tanzania and from Kenya there was Marini Naturals, Mandevu and Sheth Naturals. Expo attendees were very much eager to try out new products and so they were buying a lot and trying out new hairstyles by the hairstylists present. Not only did the exhibitors and attendees have fun exchanging hair ideas,  the best salon, brand, barber shop and stylist were honoured with Kipilipili Awards Going forward Kipilipili Hair Expo can only grow bigger as their reach is extending beyond East Africa and I personally cannot wait to see what they have in store for next year.

I am an avid traveler with a background in copywriting, social media management, art exhibition and music festival curation. I am a huge bookworm who not only enjoys getting lost in books, but I also enjoy writing on topics such as travel, art and fashion. I am interested in working in any projects relating to copywriting for small businesses, fiction writing, curating exhibitions for visual artists in Africa. I am also keen to work with small businesses in developing their social media strategies. Africa is my first love and I am currently having a great time exploring her.
