On his recent trip to Uganda, American photographer Nadere Johnson captured dancers and performers at Ndere Cultural Centre. I absolutely love the way these dancers look in their traditional clothes and for some reason they have my heart singing songs I have never heard before yet they feel so right and so familiar. So in Spirit of Heritage Month commencing in South Africa tomorrow I would love to celebrate The Ndere Troupe. They look very beautiful in their traditional regalia and this makes me proud to be African.
The Ndere cultural troupe is very diverse and it was founded to instill a sense of pride towards cultural practices and to bring together the rural and the urban. Aaaah this pictures are really breath-taking and are adding and fueling my strong desire to visit East Africa. The Ndere Troupe can perform folk dances and songs from any part of Uganda.

MONEY POWER FAME – MPF group first lady take a pride to be the first AfroSpanish Hip Pop Dancehall artiste with blend of English, Spanish and her local dialect to heat West Africa and Africa at large by storm.
After months of serious preparations and vigorous publicity campaigns the first ever Miss Cameroon South Africa took place this past weekend on the 8th of August at the Market Theatre in Newtown. Nine beauties from Cameroon competed for the title and I must say that I loved seeing how confident they were on stage. Nefertiti, Alvine, Amandine, Tessa, Paola, Patricia, Sidoine, Sonia and Duvirge strutted their staff for the judging panel which consisted of Brian Shiraz, Vanessa Mbenoun, Mavis Anim and Karelle Foster.
Because it was a contest there obviously had to be a winner. Prior to the event the public voted for their favourite and the People’s Choice Award went to Tessa Naddin while the Miss Personality Award went to Duvirge. Designers Brian Yvette outdid themselves as they produced the finest garments for the ladies. Brian Shiraz had a collection of lovely evening dresses and Yvette Nyamboli dressed the contestants in traditional regalia. My personal favourite contestant was Nefertiti, I absolutely loved how she carried herself as she walked.
The lady who reigned supreme was Amandine Ebo’o alongside Nefertiti Nach the first runner up and Sonia Nkolo the second runner up. Amandine is set to become a role model for young girls in Cameroon and South Africa. Her win means that she will also be participating in Miss Cameroon 2016 which will be held in Cameroon. She will also be attending humanitarian events and help raise money for the less privileged children in Both South Africa and Cameroon.
After the pageant a very emotional McKevin Ayaba could not believe that the event was finally a reality and the number of attendants surprised him even more. “God has been awesome and on my side I went through worst times in my life to see this dream, this event come true. Let nobody tell you that you can’t do it, many a time I was told to postpone because it was really difficult but I stood my grounds because I do not believe in postponing a dream. I will like to thank the sponsors and everyone who made the event happen”said McKevin The Executive Director and Founder of Miss Cameroon South Africa
I loved the performances from the traditonal group called Mbanghelum, They were absolutely amazing in their traditional attire and the ladies sure could dance even in high heels.
Other performers included BUFFAlo Souljah all the way from Zimbabwe, Babalwa from right here in Mzansi, Kimaany from Cameroon and T.A from Cameroon and Waxy Dey from Cameroon. It truly was a great night. Big up to the Miss Cameroon South Africa Team for all the hard work and may they apply the lessons learnt this year in the future contests.
Boyzn Bucks a well-known South African group that has positively influenced Pop Culture will be dropping their Boyzn Bucks Racing Club LookBook video very soon. I am so excited to see what they have been up to, judging from the pictures they had a lot of fun. I wonder if they will have open days for the public, the inner racer in me would love that.
On his Facebook page Okmalumkoolkat, Boyzn Buck member had this to say about the group and where there are headed: “#Boyznbucks is the coming together not only of a group of friends but a collective of skills with a love for music. With music as the starting point the Boyzn are poised for future projects in everything from fashion to art and beyond. The aim is to export South African culture and ultimately influence the kids, letting them know that they can do the same, be proud of who they are and where they come from”

After months and months of hard work and constant pressure, I somewhat started losing my sanity and focus of what I set out to do. So the only way to get back on track was to take some time out, regroup and relax.
Botswana was just what I needed, being among great people and getting to explore the city of Gaborone was good for my soul. This might sound like a cliché but the moment I set foot in Botswana I felt a weight lift off my shoulders and having vowed not to do anything work related all I did was explore the young city of Gaborone whose Central Business District is still in its early stages of development with skyscrapers being erected. I spotted some really interesting and beautiful architecture.
DID YOU KNOW?
A taxi (what Batswana refers to as a combi) costs P3.50 to go just about anywhere around Gaborone from the Bus Station. Imagine my surprise when I realized that I didn’t have to spend the usual R12 or more for a taxi ride. I was relieved and happy that my not so loaded purse was going to survive longer than I anticipated.
So it turns out that my uncle who resides in Botswana has started Poultry farming and naturally I wanted to check it out. We went with the new chicks to the farm as they had orders for the grown chickens that had to be slaughtered. I had a great time feeding the little chicks and getting them used to their new home. I think I should get into farming. I bet I would be good at it. Maybe one day I will buy land and have a go at it.
The Farmer’s Market
My friends from Botswana had been telling me about the Farmer’s Market so I decided to check it out at Bull ‘n Bush. The Farmer’s Market is all about music, good food, good company, food stalls, clothing stalls and loads more. Botswana is a very young county when it comes pop culture so The Farmer’s Market is still in its infancy but a much needed space for the creatives of Botswana. The space caters for fashion designers, chefs and book sellers. I tasted juice made purely from the Amarula fruit and it tasted alright. It’s an acquired taste.
